Today marks 150 years since The Royal Children’s Hospital first opened its doors.

Today marks 150 years since The Royal Children’s Hospital first opened its doors to care for sick and injured children.

The Melbourne Free Hospital for Sick Children opened on 9 September, 1870 with just six rooms. It has grown from such humble beginnings to become a world-leading hospital, providing care to the sickest and most vulnerable children and young people.

We acknowledge and thank all of the supporters of the Good Friday Appeal who have helped build our great hospital. You have helped raise an incredible $381 million for the Hospital through your support of the Appeal over the last 89 years.

Together, we have helped fund new, cutting edge technology and equipment, education and training for staff, research projects that transform children’s health and projects that improve the experience of patients and their families during treatment.

With your support, we look forward to continuing to raise funds for The Royal Children’s Hospital to help care for our kids.

The Hospital will be sharing a special video to mark the 150 years on their Facebook page. You can find out more about the RCH150 and the program of events to celebrate this incredible milestone on the RCH150 website.
Our staff has always held the Royal Children’s Hospital with the Good Friday Appeal in a special part of our heart. Our staff can not wait to be volunteering at the Good Friday Appeal in 2021.
